About Us
At Melissa & Doug, we believe in purposeful play that's sparked by a child's imagination and its endless possibilities. We design every product with thoughtful details to inspire the kind of kid-powered play that helps shape who children will become. Because when kids run the store, build the castle, or serve up their latest ice cream concoction, they're not just playing—they're developing creativity and confidence. The play may be pretend, but the discoveries and skills are real.
What Is Purposeful Play?

“The best play, discovery, and creation simply begins with imagination."

MELISSA AND DOUG
Yes, they're real people (and parents of six!) with a passion for play.
Our Story
It all started in 1988 with a boy, a girl, and a dream to make meaningful toys that would inspire hands-on, open-ended play.
The Melissa & Doug signature on every product is a commitment to the highest quality standards.
Our first hit toys were wooden puzzles. Whether chunky, peg, floor, or jigsaw, our puzzles have the perfect fit.
From pretend play to arts & crafts, puzzles to developmental, we have all kinds of toys for all kinds of kids.
Melissa & Doug designs every toy at its Connecticut office, then makes each prototype by hand until they get it just right.
